Read up with Camp Broadway’s curated list of theater books

You’ve put off summer reading until now, but there’s still time – and Camp Broadway has compiled a list of theater books with theater kids in mind.

Camp Broadway has partnered with The Drama Bookshop (owned by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail, Jefferey Seller, and James L. Nederlander) and New York Public Library to curate a reading list for kids who love theater.

The list includes a dozen novels based on theater, some of them written by Broadway stars.

The list includes: “Better Nate Than Ever” by Tim Federle; “Cut Loose!” by Ali Stroker and Stacy Davidowitz; “Fearless” by Mandy Gonzalez; “Limelight” by Andrew Keenan-Bolger; “The Rehearsal Club” by Kate Fodor; “Setting the Stage” by Lindsay Champion; “Shannon in the Spotlight” by Kalena Miller; “Stand up, Yumi Chung!” by Jessica Kim; “The Story of My Anger” by Jasminne Méndez; “Summer in the City” by Fracaswell Hyman; “Surviving the Applewhites” by Stephanie S. Tolan; and “Upstaged” by Jeff Anderson

You can read all about each title on the NYPL blog here and even place a hold on the book you like.

The books are aimed at 8- to 14-year-olds who like to read and want to learn more about theater and are available at The Drama Book Shop (266 W 39th St, New York, NY 10018) and at dramabookshop.com.

Have fun and read on!
